Heidi Conner, CPA
Partner
Heidi attended UW Eau Claire and Lakeland University and has a BA in Accounting. She received her Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license in October 2003. Prior to joining the firm, Heidi worked in the private sector in corporate finance and accounting. She joined the firm in 2012 and became partner in 2015. Heidi works with both businesses and individuals in tax preparation, planning, and accounting assistance. In her free time, Heidi serves on two local non-profit boards, likes to travel and spending time at the lake paddleboarding and kayaking.
Jessica Walczak, EA
Partner
Jessica began her career with McMahon, Schleifer & Wood, LLC in 2000 after earning her accounting degree from Chippewa Valley Technical College. With over 20 years of hands-on experience in accounting and taxation, Jessica became a partner in 2019. She has also earned her Enrolled Agent (EA) designation in 2022, demonstrating her knowledge of federal tax law and granting her authority to represent clients before the IRS. She specializes in tax preparation and strategic tax planning services for both individuals and businesses, as well as providing skilled support in payroll and bookkeeping.

Beyond the office, Jessica values quality time with her husband, Chris, and their two college-aged children. Her favorite ways to unwind include boating, reading, and traveling.


Jake Day, CPA
Senior Accountant
Jake has a bachelor's degree in Accounting and Operations Management from UW-Eau Claire and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Prior to joining the firm, Jake worked for a large public accounting firm and in the private sector in corporate finance and accounting. Jake works with both businesses and individuals in tax preparation. In his free time, Jake enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, fishing, and cheering on all Wisconsin sports teams.
Tabatha Clark
Office Manager
Tabatha graduated with an Associate's Degree from the Executive Assistant program at Chippewa Valley Technical College in 2017. Tabatha joined McMahon, Schleifer & Wood, LLC in March of 2019 as an Administrative Assistant; shortly thereafter she became our Office Manager. Tabatha is more than likely the first person you will come into contact with when you call or come in for your appointment. Tabatha enjoys reading, spending time with her family, and watching her daughter play Volleyball.


Christopher Kortbein, CPA
Senior Accountant
Chris has over 25 years of tax experience. He graduated from UW-LaCrosse with a degree in accounting and has worked both in public and private firms. He has his CPA license and specializes in individual and business tax returns. In his free time, Chris enjoys spending time with his family and traveling as much as possible.
Mary Ann Ogan, CPA (Inactive)
Seasonal Tax Preparer
Mary Ann is a retired CPA who works for the firm during tax season as an individual and trust tax return preparer. Prior to her retirement, she was the Vice-President of Finance at the former American Bank (now known as Merchants Bank). Mary Ann lives in the country south of Eau Claire with her husband, Dan, a retired ECASD educator. She has three children, four step-children, and nine grandchildren. In her spare time, Mary Ann enjoys travel, reading, gardening, walking, and working out at the Eau Claire Fitness Center. She is an active member of the Women’s Giving Circle and Chapter APWI of the P.E.O Sisterhood Women’s Organization.


Jeannie Chromey
Seasonal Tax Preparer
Jeannie has a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Lakeland University and has worked in public accounting for much of her career. The experience she has gained over several decades in this field is a valuable resource the firm benefits from even as we face challenges presented by continual change. Jeannie is also a Master Gardener and active in her church and community.
